The card game every Pinoy knows and loves — now live on Spintine with real-money tables, daily tournaments, and instant GCash withdrawals. Laro na, Kabayan!
From barangay tambayan sessions to online tables with real stakes — Tongits has never been bigger.
If you grew up in the Philippines, chances are you already know how to play Tongits. It's the kind of game that shows up at fiestas, family reunions, and lazy's summer afternoons — dealt out on plastic tables with a cold softdrink on the side. It's fast, it's social, and when real money is on the line, it gets seriously exciting.
Tongits is a three-player card game played with a standard 52-card deck. The objective is simple enough to grasp in one sitting: reduce the total point value of the cards in your hand to zero — or as close to zero as possible — before your opponents do. You do this by forming valid sets and sequences, then discarding cards you don't need. The player who runs out of cards first wins outright. If no one exhausts their hand, the player with the lowest point total when someone calls a "draw" takes the pot.
What makes Tongits special compared to other rummy-style games is the strategic depth hiding under that simple premise. You're not just racing to go out — you're watching your opponents' discards, baiting them into draws at the wrong time, and deciding when to go all-in on a winning hand versus when to play conservatively and minimize losses. It rewards both card sense and psychological reads, which is why Filipino players never seem to get tired of it.
At Spintine, we've taken that same game you know from your lola's living room and brought it into a clean, fast, mobile-friendly online format. The rules are exactly the same. The competition is real. And the stakes — well, those are up to you.
3 players per table. No more, no less — that's the classic Tongits setup.
Standard 52-card deck. No jokers. Cards 2–9 are face value; 10, J, Q, K = 10 points; Ace = 1 point.
Empty your hand or have the lowest points when a draw is called. Win the pot and bragging rights.
Typically 3–8 minutes per round. Fast enough to squeeze in games during your break.
New to Tongits or just need a quick refresher? Here's how a round plays out on Spintine.
The dealer gives 12 cards to each of the two non-dealer players and 13 cards to the dealer. The remaining cards form the draw pile in the center.
Arrange your hand into valid melds — either a set (three or four cards of the same rank) or a sequence (three or more consecutive cards of the same suit).
On your turn, draw one card from the pile. Then discard one card face-up. Opponents can "sapaw" (lay off) their cards onto your exposed melds.
Any player who has exposed at least one meld can call a draw. All players reveal their remaining cards and count points. Lowest hand wins.
If you manage to empty your entire hand, you call "Tongits!" and win the round outright — no point counting needed. The cleanest win in the game.
If you think you can beat the draw caller, challenge it. If you have lower points, you win. If not, you pay. Calculated risk is part of the game.
Know your melds cold — they're the foundation of every winning strategy.
Three cards of the same rank, any suit. Example: 7♠ 7♥ 7♦
All four suits of the same rank. Powerful meld that clears four cards at once.
Three consecutive ranks in the same suit. Minimum valid sequence in Tongits.
Four or more consecutive same-suit cards. More efficient — fewer melds needed to clear your hand.
Discard or meld all cards in your hand. Instant win — no draw call can beat this.
Add your card to an opponent's exposed meld. Reduces your hand count but benefits their board.
Luck deals the cards, but smart play cashes them in. These tips come straight from experienced Tongits players.
Track what your opponents discard. If you see two 8s already thrown away, that third 8 in your hand is dead weight — get rid of it and focus on what can actually form a meld.
Calling a draw too early when your hand is heavy is a mistake. But waiting too long risks another player going Tongits on you. Read the pace of the game — if the pile is thinning and you're sitting at 10 points or below, that's usually your window.
Laying down melds early lowers your point count but also lets opponents sapaw onto your board. Sometimes it's better to hold a valid meld hidden and wait for the right moment to lay everything down at once.
Face cards and 10s are worth 10 points each. If you're holding unmatched high cards with no realistic path to forming a meld with them, discard them early before they cost you the round.
An opponent who stops picking up discards and draws only from the pile is probably close to Tongits. Adjust your strategy — either rush to call a draw yourself or block them by holding cards they might need.
Just getting started? These habits will save you a lot of chips in your first few sessions.
Spintine has Tongits tables starting from ₱100 buy-in. Use the lower stakes to get comfortable with the online format before moving up.
Laying off onto an opponent's meld is tempting when it reduces your hand, but it also extends their board and may set up their Tongits. Be selective.
Before calling or fighting a draw, quickly estimate your point total. Calling at 25 points when you could've waited another two turns to drop to 8 is a costly mistake.
Spintine's live Tongits tables have a chat function. It's there to keep the social feel of the game — use it, but keep your focus on the cards.
Decide your limit before you sit down — whether it's ₱500 or ₱2,000. Stick to it. Tongits is more fun when you're playing with money you can afford to lose.
